Melinda Wagner’s nostalgic “My Tioga” invokes the landscapes of Tioga county in northern Pennsylvania, the birthplace and childhood home of her mother. A few years before “My Tioga,” and a few states away in Illinois, old boxes of music with the name Florence Price, were discovered in a long-abandoned house undergoing renovations. This 2009 discovery has led to a renaissance of Price’s music, including her String Quartet No. 1. Musicians throughout the centuries have communed at each other’s homes, playing works new and old and exchanging ideas. In 1914, Nancy Dalberg, a young Danish composer, hosted a private premier of her first string quartet in her living room, performed by none other than her mentor, Carl Nielsen.
